An exceptional, C 18 th Dutch walnut marquetry centre table
An exceptional, C 18 th Dutch walnut marquetry centre table with bone and mother of Pearl inlay. The floral design on the table top, the centre has an oval stringing with an urn on decorative plinth,large flowers and scrolling foliage all around,and 2 birds either side of plinth and a bird resting on the top of the urn. In contrast the tiny daisies with mother of Pearl inlay and dark wood stems pop up between in a playful manner. The maker recalling showing great understanding of depth and contrast . The oval bands of stringing sit within an outer rectangle and further margin of stringing decorated with more flowers and foliage. The table edge has a candy strip pattern of bone and wood. A drawer stretching the width of the table in the decorated apron. Resting on bold barley twist turned legs to a cube form that finally rests on bun feet. The stretcher coming from the base of each leg curves and joins the central circle in its centre. All surfaces decorated except for the legs. Wonderful proportion,enjoying the boldness of the design with the contrasting detailed marquetry surfaces.An exceptional piece.
